The ROCKEFELLER University Marie-Josée and Henry R. Kravis Research Building can accommodate over 600 scientific personnel. The large floor plans are designed to encourage collaboration between scientists, and by eliminating the interior structural columns and mechanical shafts found in most older buildings, the laboratory layouts may be modified to serve future research requirements.

Scientific R&D projects include Biochemistry, Biophysics, Cancer and Cell Biology, Stem Cell Development to name a few. Projects take years from start to finish. Environmental Safety including damage caused by water leaks and mold can destroy years of intense labor and the costs incurred can be unsurmountable.

Looking to install an early warning Water Leak Detection System, Mr. Gallina found only one company that addressed all his requirements. PEPCO- DETECTION (“PDC”), a division of PEPCO Controls was selected for 2 primary reasons. First, PDC offered a 100% Wireless Solution that would not interfere with the campus WiFi or costly cellular options. PDC transmitters work on its own 902mhz spread spectrum frequency guaranteeing every Wireless Leak Sensor would be monitored, even if it was relocated anywhere within the building. Second, was the ease of installation, operation and maintenance. The building has a built up floor with 18″ clearance above a concrete slab floor. Hundreds of 2’X2′ flooring panels are inlaid to a flooring grid system to allow for electric, water, air and other scientific gasses used for R &D to be easily accessed by lifting the flooring panels. To install water leak sensors and provide future easy maintenance the flooring panel is lifted and the sensors are placed on the concrete floor every 10′ in all directions. Sensors are installed and monitored via enteliWEB cloud based monitoring and alarms management.

When a sensor detects water the RF transmitter broadcasts to a router installed on the wall. A custom message is sent thru the internet from the sensor directly to several Rockefeller staff member’s working in facilities management. Messages are sent to cell phones via e-mail and text message with details that include the Kravis Research Building 1230 York Ave precise time and exact location of where water is collecting or where a high level of moisture exists that can lead to mold.

Another feature of the installed RF Wireless Infrastructure is other sensors can be wirelessly monitored including Natural Gas, Smoke, Carbon Monoxide, Motion and Temperature.

New Water Leak Detection Sensors will be added through out the entire Campus that will include every Science Lab, Bathrooms, Kitchens and Mechanical spaces.
